The 37th Convocation of IGNOU is scheduled to be held at the University of Kashmir.

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), the world’s largest Open University, is delighted to announce the date, venue, and Distinguished Chief Guest for its upcoming 37th Convocation. The grand event is scheduled to take place on February 20th, 2024 at the IGNOU Campus in New Delhi.

“We are honored to share that Jagdeep Dhankhar, the Vice President of India, has graciously accepted our invitation to be the Chief Guest for this momentous occasion, adding an extra layer of significance to the event. The proceedings of the Convocation will be telecast live on IGNOU’s Gyan Darshan Channel, Swayam Prabha Channels for Higher Education Managed by IGNOU and streamed live through Facebook Page of IGNOU (https://www.facebook.com/OfficialPageIGNOU),” reads a press release of IGNOU office.

All learners who have completed their program in the Term End Examinations in December 2022 and June 2023 are eligible to apply for receiving the degree. Online Portal for registration for the 37th convocation and remitting the requisite fee is open. The Regional Director of IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar, Dr. Shahnawaz Ahmad Dar, has informed that the requisite fee for each certificate online is currently 600/-. Dr. Shahnawaz said that the university is also going to distribute the degrees through blockchain technology. Blockchain-supported distribution of degrees ensures faster submission of degrees through the DigiLocker, he said. The Digilocker accounts of IGNOU students will allow them to access and download their degree certificates. The step for blockchain supported degree distribution has been taken to ensure faster submission and authentication of degrees through Digi-Locker. Dr. Shahnawaz said that the students are informed to create an account in the Digilocker so as to swiftly access the degree on the day of convocation when Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar will click the button for the distribution of degrees through blockchain technology. The eligible students are informed to “Sign up now for a streamlined process, making your academic achievements easily and conveniently accessible.

DigiLocker is a flagship initiative of Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY) under Digital India programme. DigiLocker aims to empower citizens by providing access to authentic digital documents in their digital document wallet. DigiLocker is a secure cloud based platform for storage, sharing and verification of documents & certificates.

Some selected Regional Centres of IGNOU will host the 37th Convocation function simultaneously, as informed by the Regional Director. The Convocation function will be organized by the IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar as one of the Regional Centres. The function will be organized by the IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar for the Learners of the Kashmir and Ladakh region and the venue for the function is Gandhi Bhawan, University of Kashmir. The students who have chosen to receive their degrees during convocation in Srinagar are informed to arrive at the venue by 9.00 a.m.

Dr. Shahnawaz further added that for the 37th convocation of IGNOU under IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar, 9616 Learners belonging to 126 different programmes are eligible for receiving degrees on the convocation. Among them, 1266 have registered to receive their degrees at the convocation, and 214 learners have chosen to receive their degrees in person during the Regional Convocation of RC Srinagar.

Dr. Shahnawaz also informed that the last date of fresh admission and re-registration for all the programmes offered in ODL and Online mode by IGNOU for January 2024 session has been extended till 29th February 2024.
